Scary times for visitors to Mexico

We've been to Riviera Maya, Mexico so many times, escaping New England winters and outside school vacation times. Loved the fresh fruit and veg we don't easily get in NE winters, warm seas, sands, catamaran day trips, archaeological trips to Chitzen Itsa etc, speaking Spanish again, even writing article on gluten free in Mexico. But now. Don't think we'll be going there anytime soon. I had seen piece on ABC only last week with confiscation of gallons of illegal alcohol that was meant to be cause of some of these problems. But that doesn't address theft, attacks, police and hotel not caring, but charging.
