I was asked to teach a cross stitch class - another of the skills that is being forgotten. I've stitched cross stitch pieces for years. It is so simple, just counting, addictive, relaxing with beautiful results. Traditional 'Embroidery ' requires knowledge of stitches and skill, as does various other stitching arts - crewel, hardanger, needlepoint, Assisi work, Blackwork and more. Yes I have done these but cross stitch is far simpler with far more patterns or ideas. And there are kits/patterns available for kids with larger holes for stitching.

I even stitched Old Man of the Mountain and a moose.

When you register, please choose which First Name initial for pattern and your color choice – dark and light shades of blue or burgundy or mauve or black/gray etc and I will supply those color flosses. You can see from the photos how the colors are stitched.

I have the complete alphabet of monograms/initials.

Questions to Oonagh at cookingwithoonagh@yahoo.com and tell me colors when you register.

Cross Stitch 101

Curious to try counted cross stitch but don't know where to start?

Join Oonagh Williams for 8 fun, relaxing weeks of beginner's cross-stitch classes or for those of you wanting to get back in the swing.

We'll start with a straight forward counted cross stitch Alphabet Monogram (you chose an initial and the colors). With only 4 colors it's far easier for a beginner.

This makes a lovely Christmas or birthday gift, or a very special Wedding memento using initials of bride and groom. Then move onto designs of your choice.

Various monograms I stitched to send to cousins in England and Ireland. Choose your colors and initial, I have complete alphabet.

The materials fee of $10.00 payable to Oonagh at first class, covers supplies for the first project:

14 count Aida cloth, needle, floss, needle threader, embroidery hoop, printed pattern, small storage bags for flosses and large bag for stitched piece. class fee payable to school.

Advice given on mounting options, frame etc finished pieces.

Please bring your own sharp scissors, red or blue fine tip pen, fine tip light colored highlighter pen, and a small desk/table lamp and magnifying glass if you have one/need one. Please label anything you bring. Water bottles, no food due to grease on fabric.

When you register, please choose which First Name initial for pattern and your color choice – dark and light shades of blue or burgundy or mauve or black/gray etc and I will supply those color flosses. You can see from the photos how the colors are stitched. It's my Initial 'O' shown. I have the complete alphabet of monograms/initials.

Learn the basics, how to read patterns, how to assemble and finish a simple project.

Pace will be slow to allow for lots of individualized instruction, work at your own pace, no hurry, i call these classes a 'sanity break' and we all need one of those. All needed materials for this monogram project will be provided.

Materials cost $10, payable to Oonagh at first class.

This is from September session, link given to current semester, Jan 2019.
